Math Scavenger Hunt!

Hello Class! In a few days we will be doing a math scavenger hunt and we will be using undersea animal facts to help us along the way. As you know though, we first need to be able to read maps and follow step by step instructions. So you will be expected to know your directions and what it means when we say beside, around, two steps to the right, down the hall or over by the window.

Here is a resource for you to read over with your parents; only the first 3 pages, which outlines what a map is and how to use it.

Parents, when reviewing the above resource, have these curriculum guidelines in mind.
Location and Movement
By the end of Grade 2, students will:
– describe the relative locations (e.g., beside, two steps to the right of ) and the movements of objects on a map (e.g.,“The path shows that he walked around the desk, down the aisle, and over to the window.”)
– draw simple maps of familiar settings, and describe the relative locations of objects on the maps (Sample problem: Draw a map of the classroom, showing the locations of the different pieces of furniture.)
